Symptoms of Baby Acne.

By Antin. About 20 % of newborn babies suffer baby acne. The other names of baby acne are neonatal acne or acne neonatorum. Usually it affects babies three to four weeks after birth. Sometimes however, babies even exhibit signs of acne right from the time they are born. It is not the same as infantile acne or teenage acne. Infantile acne is acne that affects babies over three months old. Baby acne also does not have connection to teenage or adult acne.

Baby acne symptom is characterized by the appearance of pimples or red bumps on especially on the baby’s cheeks. The acne also can found on baby’s scalp or forehead. Baby acne can cause a rough skin, along with pustules, whiteheads, and blackheads.

Baby acne is believed to be caused by hormones released by the mother during pregnancy that stimulate the oil glands present in the baby’s skin and cause acne. So baby acne is not the result of poor hygiene and nursing.

The good news of baby acne is the fact that it is not a serious condition and does not really require treatment. The application of creams or lotions may worsen the symptoms, and should therefore be avoided. To help alleviate the symptoms of baby acne, please gently washing the face daily, using water and baby soap. Baby acne generally disappears in a few weeks without any special treatments.
