DANDRUFF
HOW TO CONTROL DANDRUFF
By Antin. Dandruff is excessive shedding of scalp skin, in the form of white flakes. The cause of dandruff is unclear, but the overgrowth of a yeast ( malassezia fungus formerly known as pityrosporum ) may be the reason for the faster turnover of the scalp skin. Dandruff is not a life-threatening problem, yet it often threatens your self confidence. Here are important things to control dandruff:
1. Use a medicated dandruff shampoo. Try a tea tree oil shampoo on your hair. This shampoo has been used as an antiseptic, antibiotic and antifungal agent. Dandruff shampoo will reduce the speed of the growth of the cells on the scalp, thus lessening the cell replacement and decreasing the amount of dandruff.
2. Use dandruff shampoo more often, up to three times a week until dandruff has controlled. Then continue use dandruff shampoo once a week.
3. Don’t use gels, hairsprays and hair-coloring products.
4. Don’t scratch the scalp when it is itchy. Scratch the scalp will cause the dandruff problem worse.
5. Avoid foods that contain high levels of sugar and yeast (include wine & beer) because eating these foods can encourage fungus growth that causes dandruff.
6. Make sure your diet full of B-vitamin, Omega 3 fatty acids, and zinc rich foods such as avocados, nuts, whole grains, bananas, seeds, flaxseed, egg yolks, and spinach. Zinc is actually found in many anti-dandruff shampoos.
7. See your doctor if you have severe persistent dandruff. You probably need anti-inflammatory cream or anti-dandruff tablets to ingest.
