Atopic Dermatitis-An Overview

The symptoms of atopic dermatitis are itchy and inflamed skin. Abnormal function of the body’s immune system is believed to be a factor of atopic dermatitis.

Usually the condition tends to come and go, according to triggers or causative factors. Atopic dermatitis affects about 10% of infants and 3% of adults in the U.S. Around two-thirds of those who have eczema, occur prior to age 1.

Infantile eczema is a term if atopic dermatitis starts in infancy. Atopic dermatitis tends to run in families. People with family history of eczema or allergic conditions such as asthma or hay fever, have greater risk of developing eczema.
